Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Have you heard the importance of sitting down for a family dinner?
Well, it is something that I have endeavored to achieve for a few years now, and I have learned a few things along the way.
Like anything else, it's difficult to change a habit. It's hard to get yourself to do more work. But, the key is to unlock the motivation behind it. I hope you find these tips helpful.

1. Use Charger Plates
These larger plates are great for establishing a tablescape. Not only does it look pretty, but it also inhibits the tendency some of us have to put things like papers, or mail, or homework on the table. The easier it is to set the table, the easier it is to get everyone together at the table.

2. Tie dinner time to something else
My husband and I were trying to find a good time to talk with our kids about the faith and answer any of their questions. Meal times are perfect for this! We typically talk about school during the meal, and afterwards (but while everyone is still a the table) we do a little CCD lesson. It works great!

3. Plan ahead
Yes, it takes time to plan. Make it as specific (or non-specific) as you wish. But the purpose of this is to get a general idea of what to make instead of finding yourself close to dinner time, sighing deeply after a long day, and trying to muster the energy to think of something to make (much less actually making it).

4. Put flowers on the table
This might be just because I love flowers, but really, make the table look pretty! You will be much more willing to spend time at the table if it looks nice! Plus, flowers do have a positive effect on our psyche.

5. Pause for a moment
Before you pray, before you eat .... take a moment to savor the smell of your meal and the company of those around you!

I made a little tutorial for this Thanksgiving arrangement.
