PPA310 – A Sketch Challenge by Maggie Mata

PPA310 A sketch ChallengeThis is the inspiration for today's card. I originally wanted to make a masculine card, for a gentleman I know likes the outdoors, but I just finally got my hands on the "Birthday Blooms" stamp set from Stampin Up, and knew I could make this template work with that gorgeous flower!

I also thought this would be a fun opportunity to use the little foxy designer paper series again, (that's the 2 smaller circles).

I stamped the flower image with some StazOn
(TIP: this ink is great if you plan on watercoloring, because it is solvent-based, and it won't smudge or bleed while blending or watercoloring with the other Stampin Up ink colors).

I took my calypso coral marker, colored in the "darker" portions of the petals. Then, I picked up some ink from the calypso coral ink pad with my waterbrush, and filled in the rest of the petal for a nice soft, colored flower.

I did a similar thing with the leaves, only I used "Pool Party" instead of a green-based color. I chose pool party, because it is in the dsp circle that I used. But it does make sense, because some plants naturally have a greyish-blueish hue to them, so I thought it worked on a number of levels.

I added the perfect white accents (firstly, to cover up a boo-boo) but mostly, because I like finishing touches. In fact, something that would really make this card "pop" would be to stamp the flower image again (on some scrap paper) and repeat the coloring. With your paper snips, fussy-cut (or hand-cut) around the largest blossom. Attach some dimensionals to it, and stick it on top of the large blossom on the card.

Once again, I haven't decided on a sentiment for this card, but I'm sure it won't take me long to think of something!

  2. Oh my, such a dramatic statement with the flower and love the size. It's pops as the main theme of the card. It's simplicity is perfection! So happy you played along with PPA this week.
